I will be at the Battle of Corrichie Re-enactment this weekend, on Sunday 6th August at Milton of Crathes in Aberdeenshire. The bookshop Yeadon’s of Banchory have invited me to sign copies of my book “Daughters of the North: Jean Gordon and Mary, Queen of Scots” at the event. The battle of Corrichie is a key moment in my book, which shaped the rest of Jean Gordon’s life. Her father and brothers fought on the battlefield against Mary, Queen of Scots – even though they were really some of Mary’s biggest supporters. It’s a fascinating part of Jean’s story, which shows how Mary was manipulated by her half-brother James Stewart, Earl of Moray, and which arguably changed events not only in the north of Scotland but in Scotland as a whole.

This is a family-friendly battle re-enactment event, being held to commemorate the Battle of Corrichie, which took place in 1562. There will be Living History events, storytelling, a drum performance, an introduction to the clothing and weaponry of the time, cavalry demonstrations, and the battle re-enactment itself. The event runs from 10am-5pm, near Banchory. Full details, including a link to buy tickets, are on their website: http://battleofcorrichie.com/

Readers may have noticed recently the news that my publisher Sandstone Press has gone into liquidation.
