Mapping Memorials to Women: Josephine Tey

Today, 13th February, is the anniversary of the death of Josephine Tey, and it’s nice to see the blue plaque for Tey getting some recognition: the ‘Mapping Memorials to Women’ website has just added the plaque, making Josephine Tey their 750th featured person: https://womenofscotland.org.uk/women/josephine-tey

The Mapping Memorials to Women website lists monuments, landmarks, street names and buildings that mark the lives and achievements of women (whether famous, humble or notorious) who helped to shape Scotland.

There is also an article in today’s National newspaper about the addition of the plaque to the website: https://www.thenational.scot/news/24113827.scottish-writer-josephine-tey-honoured-womens-memorial-map/

You can read my original blogpost about our successful campaign to get a blue plaque here: Blue Plaque for Josephine Tey in place in Inverness!

The blue plaque is on the site of Josephine Tey’s family shop, which had flats above. The building has been fully restored, with the flats renovated by HHA. Downstairs is now a very smart deli – The Merchant’s Delicatesson. Here are a couple of snaps I took of the building recently:
