William Heinesen’s Windharp

Last year, I visited the house of writer William Heinesen in the Faroe Islands. Heinesen is a writer who has come to mean a lot to me. I wrote an article about the experience, and about how and why we ended up in the mountains above Tórshavn, recording his windharp.

William Heinesen is one of the great Scandinavian writers, though his work is perhaps not as well known in English as it could be.

Please have a read of my article, which explains much more about Heinesen’s work and why I enjoy it – and, if you like the piece, do share the link: https://www.williamheinesen.com/post/william-heinesen-s-windharp

You can read more about William Heinesen and his books and art via this webpage: https://www.williamheinesen.com/ . Many of his books are available in translation, published in the UK by Dedalus Books. Several of the covers of these editions feature Heinesen’s own distinctive paper-cutting artwork.
